Uganda Premier League side BUL FC have welcomed back a familiar face between the posts, confirming the return of goalkeeper Tom Ikara on a two-year contract.

The lanky 27-year-old custodian makes his second spell with the Eastern Giants after a successful run in Ethiopia, where he guarded the sticks for Sidama Buna and played a starring role in their historic Ethiopian Cup triumph.

Ikara, who previously wore BUL colours from 2022 to 2024, steps in as a direct replacement for Joel Mutakubwa, who parted ways with the Jinja-based outfit at the end of his contract. His arrival also bolsters a goalkeeping department that recently added former Kitara FC shot-stopper Farouk Yawe.

On his return, Ikara expressed to the club’s media his delight at being back in familiar territory:

“I’m excited to come back home. BUL FC is like a family to me. I feel safe and at home. I’m here to improve the team’s status from where I left it to a higher momentum and make sure we win a lot of trophies. I call upon the fans to come support the team and rally behind us so that we can achieve our targets.”

BUL have been busy in the transfer market, reshaping their squad ahead of the new campaign. Alongside Ikara and Yawe, the Eastern Giants have secured the signatures of Seri Arigumaho, Simon Achidi, Lawrence Kabungu, and Kevin Tah.

With Ikara’s safe hands and experience back in the fold, BUL will be banking on renewed defensive stability as they chase silverware in the coming season.
