High stakes

With Algeria already assured of a place at next year’s global showpiece, the pressure squarely rests on Uganda. The Cranes currently sit second in Group G with 18 points, and are chasing a vital result to remain in contention for a playoff berth, reserved for the four best runners-up across all groups.

Head coach Paul Put has instilled renewed belief and structure in his side, guiding Uganda to six wins from nine matches. The Cranes have developed into one of the continent’s most disciplined defensive units, conceding just seven goals throughout the campaign.

The Uganda Cranes have held their first training session in Algeria at Stade du 1er Novembre 1954 in Tizi Ouzou.

Algeria’s motivation

Having already booked their ticket to North America, Algeria approach this fixture with freedom and confidence. Coach Vladimir Petković will still want to end the campaign on a high in front of their fans.

The Desert Foxes boast immense quality across the pitch, and even with potential changes, they remain a daunting opponent on home soil.
