KCCA FC clawed their way back to the summit of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Friday evening after edging URA FC 2โ€“1 in a pulsating encounter at the MTN Omondi Stadium. The evening belonged to one man, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, who struck twice in the first half to dismantle his former employers and propel the Cityzens to a vital victory.

KCCA announced their intentions early, slicing through URAโ€™s backline with confidence and tempo. Their breakthrough came in the 17th minute when the lively Ssebaduka outmaneuvered his marker and whipped in a dangerous ball. A slight deflection unsettled the defence, and Ahimbisibwe, alert and ruthless, pounced to thump home the opener.

Buoyed by the goal, KCCA kept the pressure on. Saidi Mayanja nearly doubled the advantage moments later, threading an intelligent pass to Ssebaduka, whose first-time attempt whistled just past the upright. The intensity of the game soon produced its first caution, as Mayanja went into the refereeโ€™s book for a robust challenge on Ronald Otti.

But the young midfielder quickly made amends. In the 41st minute, Mayanja unleashed a ferocious drive that cannoned off the crossbar. Ahimbisibwe reacted with the instincts of a true poacher, sweeping in the rebound to secure his brace and give KCCA a commanding 2โ€“0 half-time lead.

URA regrouped after the interval, and substitute Joseph Ssemujju pulled one back to inject drama into the final stages. The Taxmen pushed for an equaliser, yet it was KCCA who carved out the clearer chances. Ahimbisibwe came agonisingly close to a hat trick, blasting over after a clever pass from Joel Sserunjogi sent him clear on goal.

Managerial tweaks followed, as Emmanuel Anyama replaced Mayanja, while Gavin Kizito came in for the heroic Ahimbisibwe. Sharifu Ssengendo later stepped in for Lazaro Muhindo. Anyama twice found himself in promising positions late on, once denied by a timely interception and later missing narrowly with the goalkeeper at his mercy.

Despite URAโ€™s late surge, KCCA showed grit and composure to see out the contest, collecting three precious points that lift them alongside the league leaders.

The Cityzens now shift focus to their upcoming clash with Mbarara City on Friday, November 28th, in Kamwenge, where they will aim to build on this hard-fought triumph.
