Express FC delivered a blistering performance at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, sweeping aside a struggling Calvary side with a commanding 4-0 victory in the Uganda Premier League on Thursday.

Coming off a bruising 3-0 home defeat to champions Vipers, the Red Eagles responded in the most emphatic fashion. Back on familiar turf, goalkeeper Kassim Hafizi marked his return to Nakivubo with a clean sheet, while Muhamed Kagawa Senoga’s brace, plus goals from Richard Basangwa and Habert Asiimwe, powered Express to their third league win of the campaign.

The hosts settled quickly and took control of proceedings. Their breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Basangwa pounced to fire home the opener, giving Express a deserved 1-0 lead at half-time despite Calvary’s desperate defending.

After the break, the floodgates opened.

Just three minutes into the second half, Kagawa struck his first of the evening, his fifth of the season, doubling Express’ advantage. The forward wasn’t done yet. Seven minutes later, he returned to punish Calvary again, finishing off a brilliant move to complete his brace and stretch the lead to 3-0.

Asiimwe added the final flourish in the 75th minute, slotting in Express’ fourth to cap a dominant display that lifted the Red Eagles from 12th place all the way into the top half of the table. They now sit seventh, above URA, who face Kitara later in the day.

Calvary’s nightmare season goes on

For Calvary FC, the misery appears unending. The newly promoted Yumbe outfit remain rooted to the bottom of the 16-team league and are still searching for their first-ever UPL win.

With only one point from eight matches, Calvary have endured a rough introduction to top-flight football. Their solitary positive result remains a goalless stalemate with Maroons in Luzira, also the only match in which they have managed to avoid conceding.

They have now shipped 17 goals and managed to score just five, a worrying trend that continues to drag them deeper into trouble.

Kagawa takes charge of Golden Boot race

Express’ talisman Kagawa has now surged ahead in the race for the Golden Boot with six goals to his name. KCCA forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe trails closely behind on five.

A trio of players, Police’s Bedia Ikamba, Buhimba United’s Edison Agondeze, and UPPC’s Ambrose Kigozi, follow with four goals each.

Seven players sit on three goals, including URA duo Moses Aliro and Fred Amaku, Kitara’s Patrick Kaddu, UPDF’s Samuel Ssekamatte, Mbarara City’s Muhammad Kanyike, Police’s Umar Kasumba, and Lugazi’s Freedom Mungudit.
