KCCA FC have temporarily shifted midfielder Bright Anukani to their junior setup as the club works around persistent licensing hurdles that have kept him sidelined throughout the first half of the Uganda Premier League season.

Anukani, who made his return to Lugogo in 2024 after running down his contract at Vipers SC, has been unable to secure a league-playing licence, an impasse that has restricted him to reserve-team action for several months.

In the build-up to the current campaign, the club is believed to have weighed the drastic option of releasing the playmaker altogether. However, the idea was swiftly abandoned due to the hefty compensation package such a termination would have triggered.

The attacking midfielder endured a mixed spell last season, registering four goals and three assists in 22 league games, a return that generated plenty of discussion among fans and pundits.

On Tuesday, December 9th, Anukani caught the eye once again, getting his name on the scoresheet as the junior side battled to a 2–2 draw against the senior team during a friendly at Lugogo.

According to SportsNation sources, KCCA FC and Anukani’s camp are now aligning on a clear roadmap aimed at ensuring the player is fully cleared and eligible for registration when the league’s second round gets underway in January.

Anukani remains tied to KCCA on a contract that runs until 2027.

Meanwhile, rival clubs Entebbe UPPC FC and URA FC are keeping a close watch on the situation, ready to act should an opportunity arise.
