New York Red Bulls II have confirmed that midfielder Steven Sserwadda will spend the 2026 campaign on loan at MLS NEXT Pro newcomers Connecticut United FC, joining compatriot Ibrahim Kasule, as the Ugandan internationals continue their development away from the Red Bulls system.
Sserwadda departs New York having been a familiar figure in the RBNY II setup across four seasons. During that period, he featured in 63 matches, contributing four goals and four assists from midfield. His breakthrough moment in front of goal came on April 21, 2024, when he netted his first MLS NEXT Pro strike against Philadelphia Union II, before later registering his maiden assist in the competition against Carolina Core FC on September 1, 2024.
Kasule heads to Connecticut United on a loan from New York Red Bull II
The Kampala-born midfielder’s journey with the club stretches back even further. He made his competitive debut for the organization in the USL Championship, appearing against Tampa Bay Rowdies on October 16, 2021, marking the beginning of his rise through the Red Bulls ranks.
Sserwadda has also tasted first-team action with Red Bull New York, making two MLS appearances and accumulating 27 minutes. His Major League Soccer debut came on June 30, 2022, in a match against Atlanta United FC, while he was signed on a short-term agreement from Red Bulls II.
On the international stage, the 23-year-old has steadily built his résumé with the Uganda national team, earning four senior caps and logging 210 minutes. He made his senior debut on March 25, 2022, in a friendly against Tajikistan.
Before stepping up to the senior side, Sserwadda represented Uganda at both U-20 and U-23 levels, most notably playing a key role at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, where he scored twice and helped the Hippos reach the final.
Before his move to the United States, Sserwadda honed his craft at Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA) in the Ugandan Premier League. A product of the club’s academy, he featured for both the youth ranks and senior team, collecting an impressive haul of silverware that included the Ugandan Premier League title, the Uganda Cup, and the CECAFA Clubs Cup.
The loan to Connecticut United FC now presents Sserwadda with a fresh platform to gain regular minutes and leadership responsibility as the expansion side prepares for its debut season in MLS NEXT Pro.
