Speaking to Footy-Uganda in an exclusive interview, Uganda Cranes defender Hillary Mukundane has urged his teammates to maintain focus ahead of Monday’s decisive African Nations Championship (CHAN) clash against South Africa.

The Cranes top Group C with six points from two games and need just a draw to seal their place in the quarterfinals. South Africa, who sit third with five points, must win to progress, making the showdown a high-stakes battle.

“This is a decisive game for us,” Mukundane exclusively told Footy-Uganda after training on Saturday. “We know what is at stake, a positive result takes us through. As players, we are motivated and determined to fight for that,” the Vipers SC star stated as he exclusively spoke to Footy-Uganda in an interview.

Mukundane praised the team’s balance and collective spirit, which has powered their unbeaten run so far.

“We have worked hard on our shape, our transitions, and our mentality. South Africa is a strong side, but we believe in ourselves. The spirit in camp is high, and we want to make Ugandans proud,” he noted.

Uganda has never advanced beyond the group stages at CHAN, but Mukundane insists this time feels different.

“It’s about character and discipline,” he added. “We are ready to give everything for the badge.”

Uganda has so far beaten Guinea (3-0) and Niger (2-0), whilst suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Algeria, in what was their tournament opener.
