Nine-time champions SC Villa put one foot in the final of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after a composed 2-0 victory away to URA FC in the semifinal first leg at Nakivubo Stadium on Monday night.
The Jogoos delivered a clinical performance, capitalizing on key moments to secure a valuable advantage ahead of the return leg.
Najib Yiga opened the scoring with a well-taken finish, capping off a slick attacking sequence initiated by Patrick Jonah Kakande and Hassan Mubiru.

URA threatened early on, with Joseph Ssemujju going close, but his effort was expertly dealt with by Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago, who stood firm throughout the contest.
After the break, the hosts enjoyed greater spells of possession and pushed forward in search of a response. However, Villa’s defensive organization held strong. URA’s clearest opportunity came from Dissan Galiwango’s dangerous free kick, which forced Lukwago into another solid save.
As the match edged toward its conclusion, Villa tightened their grip on the tie. Sustained pressure led to a decisive second goal, albeit in unfortunate fashion for the hosts, as Moses Aliro turned the ball into his own net under pressure from substitute Andrew Otim.

With a two-goal cushion, SC Villa now head into the second leg in a commanding position. The decisive return fixture is set for May 16 at FUFA Technical Centre Kadiba, where the aggregate winner will be determined.
Villa are chasing their first final appearance since 2015, while URA, champions in 2014, face an uphill task to keep their hopes alive.
