Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC are preparing for further changes to their playing squad, with Liberian pair Robin Kane Hney and Mark Yallah expected to leave the club alongside right-back Grant Matsiko during the ongoing transfer window.
The trio appear to be among the first casualties of the restructuring process at Kitende following the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign.
Hney’s departure comes less than a year after he arrived at the club from Albanian outfit Apolonia Fier. The Liberian defender joined the Venoms at the beginning of last season on a three-year contract, but his stay is set to end prematurely.
Despite having two years remaining on his agreement, sources indicate that both the player and the club have reached a mutual understanding to bring the contract to an end.
The defender rose through the ranks at Cece United Football Academy before featuring for Pepper FC and FC Fassell in his native Liberia, performances that eventually earned him a move abroad and later a switch to Vipers.
Vipers land defensive utility man Nicholas Mwere ahead of new season
Another Liberian international, Yallah, is also heading for the exit despite still being under contract.
The versatile player joined the reigning league champions from Fassell Football Club in Monrovia and still had two years left on his deal. However, his future at the club has reportedly been affected by the departure of Belgian coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert, who was instrumental in bringing him to Kitende.
Sources close to the situation reveal that Yallah is now expected to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere following Minnaert’s exit.
Before joining Vipers, Yallah enjoyed spells with Mozambican side Associa Black Bull FC and Liberian clubs Muscat FC and FC Fassell.
Meanwhile, Matsiko is also set to bring his chapter at Vipers to a close after an underwhelming spell with the club.
The attacking full-back arrived in 2023 from Wakiso Giants, where he had established himself as one of the league’s standout defenders during the 2022/23 season. His impressive displays that year earned him a place in the Uganda Premier League Best XI.
However, he struggled to replicate that form after moving to Kitende and was unable to cement a regular place in the team.
Vipers SC end Ivan Minnaert era after title-winning campaign
Having failed to make the desired impact, both parties are now expected to part ways as Vipers continue to reshape their squad ahead of next season.
Prior to his stint with Wakiso Giants, Matsiko captained Kigezi Homeboyz, helping the club build a competitive side before eventually moving on. Kigezi Homeboyz have since secured promotion back to the Uganda Premier League.
As the player departures gather pace, Vipers have already moved to strengthen the squad, agreeing terms with left-back Nicholas Mwere. The club is also continuing its search for a new head coach following Minnaert’s departure as preparations for the title defence begin in earnest.
