NEC FC have secured the services of defender Patrick Bayiga for the foreseeable future after agreeing a new two-year contract extension with the experienced full-back.
Footy-Uganda understands that Bayiga has put pen to paper on a fresh deal that will keep him at the Bugolobi-based club until 2028, ending speculation surrounding his future following the expiration of his previous contract.
The defender initially joined NEC FC ahead of the 2024/25 campaign on a two-year agreement and has since established himself as an important figure within the squad. His performances attracted interest from a number of clubs outside Uganda, but the player has opted to continue his journey with the Uganda Premier League outfit.
Bayiga arrived at NEC after a lengthy spell with Maroons FC, where he spent five seasons following his move to the Luzira side at the beginning of the 2018/19 season. His experience and consistency have made him one of the dependable options in NEC’s defensive ranks.
The contract renewal comes during a busy transfer period for the club, which has already seen versatile utility player Joseph Dhata depart. Dhata recently completed a move to South Sudanese side Jamus SC, signing a two-year contract with the club.
NEC will be aiming to build on their performances from the recently concluded campaign, where they finished fifth in the Uganda Premier League standings with 53 points under the guidance of head coach Badru Kaddu Mukasa.
Keeping Bayiga at the club is expected to provide stability and leadership as NEC continue preparations for the upcoming season.
