Kitara FC have strengthened their defensive ranks with the acquisition of Ghanaian defender Bonney Christopher, who has signed a two-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Royals have moved swiftly to reinforce their squad as they prepare for one of the busiest seasons in the club’s history, with domestic duties in the Uganda Premier League and Stanbic Uganda Cup set to be complemented by a return to continental football in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Bonney becomes Kitara’s first arrival of the current transfer window, adding valuable experience from both the Ghana Premier League and the Tajikistan top flight.
Comfortable as a central defender, right-back or defensive midfielder, the 27-year-old offers head coach Wasswa Bbosa a versatile option capable of filling multiple roles across the defensive unit. His arrival is expected to increase competition for places alongside Murushid Jjuuko, Isa Lumu, Benjamin Nyakoojo and Samuel Kato Nimeyimana.
The Accra-born defender developed through the ranks of Unistar Soccer Academy before featuring for some of Ghana’s most recognised clubs, including Asante Kotoko, Ebusua Dwarfs and Hearts of Oak. He also turned out for Kerala United before embarking on his first overseas stint with Panjsher Balkh in Tajikistan.

Across his time in Ghana, Bonney accumulated more than 40 league appearances before making 22 outings for Panjsher Balkh during the 2023/24 Vysshaya Liga season.
Speaking after completing his move, the defender expressed his determination to meet expectations at his new club.
โThere is a lot expected of me, from my teammates and the fans, but I want to pledge my commitment and determination to help us win games and titles this season,โ he said.
โI know the task ahead, but Iโm here to improve as a player and help my team achieve success. I canโt wait to get started.โ
Head coach Wasswa Bbosa believes the Ghanaian is the right fit for Kitara’s ambitions, revealing the club had tracked him for an extended period before finalising the deal.
โWe have been monitoring him for a while and we are delighted to add him to the squad. He has a positive mentality, good experience, and he brings real competition for places. He will be an important player for us next season,โ Bbosa said.
Bonney’s arrival signals the start of what promises to be an active recruitment drive for Kitara as the club builds a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts in the upcoming season.
