Kitara FC have continued their busy recruitment drive by completing the signing of Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa, adding further experience and quality to their squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Royals officially unveiled the highly rated custodian on Wednesday, July 22, through the club’s official communication channels, confirming that he has penned a two-year contract.
In announcing the move, the Hoima-based outfit expressed delight at landing one of Uganda’s established goalkeepers.
“Kitara FC have strengthened their goalkeeping department with the signing of Uganda Cranes shot stopper Joel Mutakubwa,” the club stated.
Mutakubwa arrives as a free agent following the expiration of his spell with Ethiopian outfit Wolwalo Adigrat University FC, where he produced a string of commanding displays.
The experienced goalkeeper enjoyed an impressive campaign in Ethiopia and played a pivotal role during Wolwalo Adigrat’s memorable Ethiopian FA Cup run, delivering standout performances, including in their victory over Sidama Bunna.
His acquisition is expected to provide healthy competition between the posts while addressing an area Kitara identified as a priority heading into a demanding season that includes domestic football and the CAF Confederation Cup.
Head coach Wasswa Bbosa believes the arrival of the Uganda Cranes goalkeeper is exactly what the club needed as they seek greater stability in goal.
“We faced some challenges previously, and we obviously didn’t want to go through the same again and that’s why you see the arrival of Joel,” he said.
“He is committed, has lots of experience and his quality is what any other coach would fancy to have in his squad,” he added.
Mutakubwa becomes the latest addition to Kitara’s growing list of new recruits, joining Nicholas Kasozi, Martin Kizza, Bonney Christopher, Jackson Ssembatya and Missi Ssemugera as the Royals continue reshaping their squad for the upcoming campaign.
With preparations gathering momentum, Kitara are signalling their ambition to challenge on multiple fronts as they assemble a squad capable of competing both in the Uganda Premier League and on the continental stage.
