The wave of resistance to FUFA’s newly-introduced Uganda Premier League (UPL) format is growing, with Lugazi FC becoming the latest club to express dissatisfaction.

Barely half a day after SC Villa and Vipers SC openly dismissed the reforms, and KCCA signaled its displeasure, Lugazi issued a strongly worded statement on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, faulting the process that led to the changes.

“We are also deeply concerned about the manner in which the reforms were passed. Although we actively submitted our proposals during the consultative meeting, it is evident that our views as the club were not considered,” the club stressed in the official statement.

The Jinja-based side further accused FUFA of rushing the reforms through without giving clubs ample time to weigh their implications.

“It is equally concerning that the new format was rushed into implementation without giving clubs necessary time to study it and critically evaluate its impact. We strongly believe that reforms of this magnitude shouldn’t be imposed hastily and must reflect inclusivity, fairness and transparency for the good of the game,” the club added.

FUFA has yet to issue a formal response to the growing opposition. However, the UPL secretariat has already gone ahead with preparations, conducting the first-round draws on Monday despite the mounting backlash.
