Lugazi FC have officially commenced the hunt for a new technical team following the exit of head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa and his assistant Robert Sekweyama.
The Uganda Premier League side announced the changes on Monday evening, confirming that both coaches had left the club by mutual agreement as preparations for the 2026/27 campaign gather momentum.
“Lugazi Football Club has mutually parted company with Head Coach Simon Peter Mugerwa. Assistant Coach β Robert Sekweyama has also departed,” reads part of the statement.
Mugerwa’s tenure at Lugazi comes to an end after just over six months in charge. He was appointed on December 25, 2025, taking over from Steven Bogere at a time when the club was battling to preserve its top-flight status.

Tasked with steering the Leaders away from danger, the coach oversaw 19 league matches, collecting three victories and six draws while suffering ten defeats. Despite the challenging run, Lugazi managed to retain their place in the Uganda Premier League, finishing 13th with 25 points and narrowly escaping relegation.
The club has already shifted focus toward the future, revealing that efforts are underway to assemble a new coaching unit ahead of what will be a crucial third consecutive season in the top division.
Since earning promotion to the top flight, Lugazi have endured back-to-back campaigns spent fighting for survival, successfully avoiding the drop on each occasion. With their Premier League status secured once again, the club’s ambition will now be to move beyond relegation battles and establish themselves as a competitive force capable of challenging for a place in the top half of the table.
