The stage is now firmly set for the final stretch of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, with the FUFA Competitions Department announcing that the semifinal draw will take place on Thursday, April 16, at Umoja House in Nakasero.

Four formidable sides have secured their places in the last four, each bringing a rich history and strong pedigree in Uganda’s premier knockout competition. The lineup features four-time winners Vipers SC, record holders SC Villa with nine titles, 2014 winners URA FC, and reigning holders Kitara FC, who lifted the trophy in 2024.

Defending champions Vipers SC had to dig deep to keep their title defense alive. After a tense goalless battle against NEC FC in the quarterfinals, the Venoms held their nerve to triumph 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Late drama at Nakivubo: URA stage comeback to dump KCCA out of Uganda Cup

SC Villa, Uganda’s most decorated club in the competition, edged past lower-tier side Happy Boys Kagaba in a tightly contested encounter. A solitary strike from Andrew Otim proved decisive, ensuring Villa’s progression to yet another semifinal.

Kitara FC delivered one of the standout performances of the round, dismantling ten-time champions Express FC with an emphatic 3-0 victory. The dominant display underlined their intent to retain the crown they claimed just last year.

URA FC, meanwhile, staged a resilient comeback to deny KCCA FC any hopes of silverware this season. After a thrilling 2-2 stalemate across regulation and extra time, the Tax Collectors held their composure to win 4-2 on penalties, an outcome reminiscent of their triumphant 2014 campaign.

The semifinal ties will be contested over two legs, with each team playing home and away. Aggregate winners from both fixtures will advance to the final of the 52nd edition of the tournament.

Beyond domestic glory, there is also continental incentive at stake, as the eventual winner will earn the right to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup.
