Uganda Premier League: KCCA seek redemption as BUL stand in their way

Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA) return to familiar territory at the MTN Omondi Stadium on a mission to steady turbulent waters when they host BUL FC in a pivotal Uganda Premier League showdown.

The Kasasiro Boys have stumbled out of the blocks this year, suffering back-to-back defeats that have dented their title momentum and intensified scrutiny around head coaches Brian Ssenyondo and Jackson Magera. Once considered early pace-setters, KCCA now find themselves playing catch-up in a race that has begun to stretch.

Occupying sixth place with 30 points, the Lugogo-based side trail table-toppers Vipers SC by eight points. The gap widened further after Vipers were held by NEC earlier in the week, a result that did little to ease the pressure on KCCA, who can ill-afford another misstep.

Back home tonight to make it count 💪🏾

Despite the recent slump, Magera insists the campaign is far from decided and draws encouragement from a timely boost in squad depth ahead of the weekend encounter.

“Besides Derrick Nsibambi, we have no more injuries to worry about with Katenga and Gabi back,” he told the club media.

“We know how important the game is and we will do everything to get three points,” he added.

The return of Ettiene Katenga and Gabriel Joao provides renewed options in key areas, though defensive frailties remain a concern. Clean sheets have been hard to come by, and that vulnerability could be tested by a BUL side rediscovering rhythm under head coach Alex Isabirye.

The Jinja outfit arrive in Kampala buoyed by a spirited 1-1 stalemate against Vipers in their previous outing, a performance that underlined their growing resilience. Currently eighth on 24 points, BUL have steadily rebuilt their confidence and will look to attacking threats such as Karim Ndugwa to unsettle a KCCA backline still searching for consistency.

History offers KCCA modest comfort. They edged the reverse fixture 2-1 in Njeru earlier this season, but completing a league double over BUL is something they have not managed since 2019, a statistic that adds another layer of intrigue to an already compelling contest.

Elsewhere across the league card, Express FC make the trip to Midigo to face Calvary, while Lugazi entertain UPDF FC in another fixture that could influence the mid-table shuffle.
