Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have underlined their relentless pursuit of sustained success by completing the signing of Uganda Cranes midfielder Joel Sserunjogi on a three-year contract, sealing one of the most eye-catching deals of the 2026/27 transfer window.
The reigning league holders have successfully prised one of the country’s most admired midfielders away from KCCA FC, landing a player whose consistency, intelligence and technical excellence have made him one of the standout performers in Ugandan football over the past three seasons.
Far from being an ordinary recruitment, Sserunjogi’s capture reflects the growing ambition at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende. Vipers continue to strengthen from a position of dominance, assembling a squad capable not only of retaining the league title but also reclaiming the Uganda Cup while making a significant impact in the CAF Champions League.
At just 24, Sserunjogi arrives with a reputation forged through discipline, refinement, and remarkable consistency. During his spell at KCCA, he evolved into the heartbeat of the Lugogo side, making well over 100 appearances and earning widespread acclaim for his calmness under pressure, immaculate distribution, tactical maturity and ability to dictate the rhythm of matches from deep midfield.
His rise has been anything but accidental.

The gifted midfielder first developed his football education at Mulusa Academy before continuing his progression through St. Julian Secondary School and Kajjansi United, where his technical qualities and composure quickly distinguished him from his peers.
His reputation expanded even further on the Masaza Cup stage. After featuring for Buddu, Sserunjogi played a pivotal role in Busiro’s historic 2022 triumph, helping the county secure its first-ever Masaza Cup crown with a series of commanding midfield displays that attracted interest from several Uganda Premier League clubs.
KCCA ultimately secured his signature in 2023, a decision that soon proved inspired as he seamlessly adapted to top-flight football and established himself among the league’s elite midfielders.
His outstanding club performances were rewarded with international recognition when he earned his maiden Uganda Cranes call-up in 2024. Since then, he has gone on to collect nine senior caps, further reinforcing his growing influence within the national team setup.
Sserunjogi also becomes one of the marquee arrivals under newly appointed French head coach Denis Lavagne, who has been entrusted with building upon Vipers’ domestic supremacy while steering the club towards greater achievements on the continental stage.
The former KCCA midfielder is expected to inject greater control, creativity and tactical balance into an already formidable Vipers engine room. His ability to retain possession, launch attacks and control the tempo offers Lavagne another invaluable weapon as the Venoms prepare for another demanding campaign.
With one of Uganda’s most coveted midfield talents now wearing red and blue, Vipers have once again demonstrated their ability to attract the very best talent available. It is a transfer that sends a powerful message to their rivals: the champions are not merely defending their throne, they are determined to strengthen it.
