Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have confirmed the exits of goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya and defender Grant Matsiko as the club continues reshaping its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Venoms announced the departures on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, through their official social media channels, marking the end of both playersโ spells at the Kitende-based club.
Ssekagyaโs second stint with Vipers has come to a premature conclusion after the two parties reached an agreement to end his contract. The goalkeeper had returned to the club in August 2024 after signing a three-year deal, but his final year on the contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
Despite being regarded as one of Ugandaโs promising goalkeepers, Ssekagya struggled to secure a consistent role in the team. His comeback generated plenty of debate among supporters, with many wondering whether he would get enough opportunities to reclaim a starting position.
However, competition from Alfred Mudekereza and Denis Kiggundu made it difficult for him to break into the first team, restricting his appearances during his time at Kitende.
Thank you and farewell Bashir Ssekagya, we wish you all the best on your future endeavors.#VenomsUpdates || #OneTeamOneDream || pic.twitter.com/EOY6wojML4

Matsikoโs departure also follows a challenging season in which the experienced defender found limited opportunities. After featuring only twice in the league campaign, the former player decided to move on in search of more regular football.
The defender has already secured his next destination, joining Uganda Premier League newcomers Entebbe UPPC on a two-year contract.
The latest exits come days after Vipers confirmed the departure of midfielder Taddeo Lwanga, who completed a move to Kenyan outfit AFC Leopards.
With preparations underway for their title defence, the champions have already begun rebuilding their squad through new additions. The club has brought in midfielder Joel Sserunjogi, Jacques Mangoba and Nicholas Mwere as part of their recruitment drive.
Vipers have also appointed French coach Denis Lavagne on a two-year deal, with the experienced tactician now overseeing preparations for the upcoming campaign.
