Head coach Laryea Kingston has unveiled a 27-player roster for 2026 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, as Uganda prepares for the continental youth showpiece set to be staged in Morocco.

The squad will be captained by promising midfielder Owen Mukisa from Vipers Junior Team, who has been entrusted with leading a side blending school-based prospects and academy talent.

In goal, Kingston has settled on a trio of Geofrey Mubiru (Amus College School), Adrian Mukwanga (Vipers Junior Team), and Ashraf Lukyamuzi (Kyadondo S.S), offering a mix of experience and emerging quality between the posts.

The rest of the travelling contingent features a diverse pool of young players drawn from schools and development programs across Uganda and beyond. Among them are Brian Olwa (Edgars Youth Programme), Musa Suuna (Amus College School), Ukasha Jemba (KCCA Junior Team), Edrine Kiddu (Bukedea Comprehensive), Mujaid Mbalire (Masaka S.S), and Yusuf Ssenyonga (Bukedea Comprehensive).

The squad also includes foreign-based talent Liam Karissa Kankaka of Oxford United, alongside Nicholas Kawooya (Buddo S.S), Enoch Mwesigwa (Volf Academy), Eze Kombi (Amus College School), Ibrahim Waita (Buddo S.S), and Brian Owino (Vipers Junior Team).

Further selections feature Henry Muhoozi (Amus College School), Abdulshakur Babi (Buddo S.S), Thomas Ogema (Kyadondo SS), Emmanuel Epila (Mentors), Fahad Ismail (KCCA Junior Team), Eric Isabirye (Rays of Grace), and Travor Mubiru (Vipers Junior Team).

Rounding out the squad are Reagan James Lwanga (Kibuli S.S), Shakur Ngobi (Greenlight Islamic School), Arafat Ibanda (NEC Junior Team), and Inshirah Mahyoub (Kibuli S.S).

The tournament is scheduled to kick off on May 13, with Uganda drawn into a demanding Group B alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, and DR Congo, three sides with strong youth football pedigrees.

Qualification stakes are high, as all four quarter-finalists will earn automatic tickets to the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Two more nations will join them via a playoff route, increasing the pressure on teams to advance beyond the group stage.
