The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has taken decisive action against a number of match officials following a string of controversial decisions that have raised concerns about officiating standards in the Uganda Premier League this season.

Acting through its Referees Disciplinary Panel, FUFA issued a series of suspensions targeting officials found guilty of serious lapses in judgment during recent league fixtures.

The governing body’s move signals a firm stance on restoring credibility and consistency in match officiating.

Buhimba United vs Police

In one of the most heavily sanctioned cases, six officials involved in the match between Buhimba United and Police FC have each received three-month bans for violating officiating protocols.

Those suspended include referee Musisi Henry, assistant referees Kinyera Fred and Mbabali Samuel, fourth official John Ssemakula, match commissioner Kugonza Ssemu Christopher, and referee assessor Kimbugwe Hillary Godfrey. Besides their suspensions, all six will be required to undergo a refresher course.

The disciplinary action stems from an unusual oversight during the match, where Buhimba United player Eric Nyonyintono was permitted to participate despite wearing a jersey that did not match his teammates’ kit.

SC Villa vs Express

In another incident, assistant referee Immaculate Ongiera has been handed a three-month suspension following a critical error during the clash between SC Villa and Express FC.

Ongiera incorrectly ruled out what would have been a valid goal by Hassan Mubiru for offside, a decision that drew significant criticism.

Police vs SC Villa

Further disciplinary action was taken after the encounter between Police FC and SC Villa, where referee Emmanuel Okudra was sanctioned with a three-month suspension.

Okudra was found at fault for disallowing a legitimate goal scored by SC Villa.

FUFA’s latest measures underline growing concern over officiating quality and reflect a broader effort to enforce accountability among match officials. With multiple high-profile errors affecting match outcomes, the governing body appears determined to tighten standards and restore confidence in the league.
