Kitara FC will be determined to return to winning ways when they face Express FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo after suffering a costly setback against NEC FC in the Uganda Premier League title race.

The defeat denied the Royals a golden chance to reduce the gap on league leaders Vipers SC, leaving them third on the table with 54 points. With Vipers scheduled to battle Police FC earlier in the day, the pressure is firmly on Kitara to collect maximum points and stay within touching distance of the summit.

Midfielder Emmanuel Wasswa, who previously featured for Express, acknowledged the challenge awaiting them but stressed the importance of an immediate reaction following their recent disappointment.

The midfielder admitted the squad was frustrated by the loss to NEC but insisted the focus has quickly shifted toward keeping their title ambitions alive. Having already defeated the Red Eagles twice this season, Wasswa believes securing another victory will require an even stronger performance.

Meanwhile, Express head into the contest with ambitions of their own. The Red Eagles sit 10th with 33 points and are eager to climb into the league’s top eight before the season concludes. Former Kitara player Marvin Nyanzi will be keen to make an impression against his old side.

Kitara will still be without suspended midfielder Meddie Kibirige, serving the second game of his ban, but the visitors are expected to lean on the attacking threat of Patrick Kaddu, Wasswa, Jimmy Kalema and George Ssenkaaba.

For Express, striker Kenneth Kimera, currently on loan from Vipers, is expected to spearhead the hosts’ search for goals.

Elsewhere across the league, Entebbe UPPC travel to face Maroons FC at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, while URA FC host Calvary FC in the opening fixture of the Nakivubo double-header. BUL FC will also entertain Lugazi FC as Vipers make the trip to Police.
