Police FC head coach Matia Lule was full of praise for his players after they produced a spirited second-half display to stun KCCA FC 2-0 at the Kira Road Arena in Kamwokya on Tuesday, as the Uganda Premier League resumed following the AFCON break.

Lule watched his side grind through a tight and cautious first half before stepping up a gear after the interval, a shift he believes was key to the victory.

“The boys just put up a good show today. They showed from the start that they wanted to win and played their hearts out,” Lule said after the match. “In the first half, we didn’t create much, but we got the cutting edge in the second half and that proved the difference.”

Police FC broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half when Brian Obedi volleyed home after Dennis Kalanzi’s header dropped invitingly into his path. The goal injected belief into the hosts, who continued to press KCCA and limit their attacking threat.

Kalanzi again played a decisive role later in the half, as his looping header sailed over goalkeeper Emojong and landed kindly for Bedia Ikamba, who calmly tapped into an empty net to seal an impressive victory.

The result inflicted only KCCA’s second defeat of the season, following their earlier loss to Vipers SC at Kitende, and dealt a blow to their early title ambitions.

For Police FC, the win lifts them to third place on the league table with 24 points, sitting three points ahead of leaders Vipers SC. However, Lule was quick to dismiss talk of a title charge.

“Our focus is not about winning the league,” he insisted. “We just want to play better each game.”

While the league table paints an encouraging picture, Lule’s measured approach reflects a coach determined to keep his side grounded, even after one of their most eye-catching performances of the season.
