The highly anticipated Centenary international friendly between Zanzibar and Uganda has been cancelled after government health directives disrupted plans to stage the fixture, the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) has announced.
The match had been scheduled for Thursday, 11 June 2026, at the New Amaan Complex and was expected to be one of the standout occasions on the regional football calendar. However, authorities were unable to grant the necessary approval for the event due to precautionary public health measures currently in place.
ZFF communicated the development to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), expressing regret over the cancellation while emphasizing that the circumstances were beyond the federation’s control.
“The decision was beyond our control. We value our friendship and remain committed to rescheduling the match soon,” ZFF stated.

The encounter had been viewed as an important opportunity for both sides to strengthen their squads through competitive international action, while also celebrating the enduring football relationship between Zanzibar and Uganda.
Although supporters will have to wait longer for the contest, both football bodies have indicated their desire to keep discussions open regarding a new date. Efforts are expected to begin immediately to identify a suitable window in which the fixture can be rearranged.
With the game officially shelved for now, attention turns to future planning as the two federations work towards ensuring the centenary celebration match eventually takes place under more favorable conditions.
