Vipers’ borrowed blade strikes again as Kimera helps end Kitara’s title chase

Just when Kitara FC thought the title race had offered them one last opening, a player owned by Vipers SC arrived to slam the door shut.

Kenneth Kimera, on loan at Express FC, delivered another painful twist in Kitara’s crumbling championship pursuit as the Red Eagles powered to a thrilling 3-2 victory at Nakivubo on Tuesday evening.

The Royals came into the contest with renewed belief after Vipers had earlier stumbled to a goalless draw against Police FC. Victory would have trimmed the gap and kept the pressure alive.

Instead, Kitara unravelled spectacularly.

Express struck first in the 14th minute when Mikidadi Ssenyonga brilliantly connected with Vincent Adriko’s inviting delivery to silence the travelling faithful.

But the real sting arrived 13 minutes later through Kimera, the Vipers loanee calmly finishing to double the hosts’ advantage and deepen the growing anxiety in Kitara’s backline.

It was an eerily familiar script.

Only days ago, NEC FC midfielder Richard Basangwa had shattered Kitara’s momentum with the solitary strike in a damaging 1-0 defeat. This time, another player tied to the title picture stepped forward to push the Royals completely off the cliff.

Henry Wamala added a third moment later, punishing more hesitant defending as Express raced into a stunning 3-0 lead before halftime, a scoreline that brutally exposed a side once hailed as Vipers’ greatest threat for the crown.

To their credit, Kitara attempted a response. Asiki pulled one back shortly after the restart before Jimmy Kalema reduced the deficit again late on, but the revival carried little substance beyond cosmetic respectability.

The damage had already been done.

The defeat leaves Kitara seven points behind Vipers with only two matches remaining, officially ending a title charge that had once looked capable of shaking the league’s established order.

Now, Wasswa Bbosa’s men are left clutching at the Stanbic Uganda Cup for consolation, where, quite fittingly, Vipers await them once again.

At this stage, nearly every road Kitara take seems to end with someone in Vipers colours smiling at the finish line.
